چکیده

A new formulation as well as a new solution technique is proposed for an equilibrium path-following method in two-dimensional quasistatic frictional contact problems. We consider the Coulomb friction law as well as geometrical nonlinearity explicitly. Based on a criterion of maximum dissipation of energy, we propose a formulation as a mathematical program with complementarity constraints (MPEC) in order to avoid unloading solutions in which most contact candidate nodes become stuck. A regularization scheme for the MPEC is proposed, which can be solved by using a conventional nonlinear programming approach. The equilibrium paths of various structures are computed in cases such that there exist some limit points and/or infinite number of successive bifurcation points.

A Class of Mathematical Programs with Equilibrium Constraints: A Smooth Algorithm and Applications to Contact Problems

We discuss a special mathematical programming problem with equilibrium constraints (MPEC), that arises in material and shape optimization problems involving the contact of a rod or a plate with a rigid obstacle. This MPEC can be reduced to a nonlinear programming problem with independent variables and some dependent variables implicity defined by the solution of a mixed linear complementarity p...

Three-dimensional quasi-static frictional contact by using second-order cone linear complementarity problem

A new formulation is presented for the three-dimensional incremental quasi-static problems with unilateral frictional contact. Under the assumptions of small rotations and small strains, a second-order cone linear complementarity problem is formulated, which consists of complementarity conditions defined by bilinear functions and second-order cone constraints. The equilibrium configurations are...

Large-Scale Parallel Multibody Dynamics with Frictional Contact on the Graphical Processing Unit

In the context of simulating the frictional contact dynamics of large systems of rigid bodies, this paper reviews a novel method for solving large cone complementarity problems by means of a fixed-point iteration algorithm. The method is an extension of the Gauss-Seidel and Gauss-Jacobi methods with overrelaxation for symmetric convex linear complementarity problems. Convergent under fairly sta...
